Teens

There are a lot of opportunities for teenagers at Calvary Baptist Church. The youth group of Calvary Baptist Church meets each Wednesday at a facility in downtown Norwich. This is our main program for teens. It takes place from 6 p.m. until 8:30 every Wednesday. The Den is located at the Council for the Arts Building at 27 West Main Street, Norwich, New York. To access the Den we use the entrance on Maple Street at rear of building through big White Gym Doors.

The facility itself provides a lot of activity with pool tables, air hockey tables, ping pong, foosball, and other games. Beverages and snacks are often provided. There is another large room with couches a big screen TV where we gather to have our main Bible study and teaching time. The focus of this time is to present teens with an effective, relevant time where they get to see how the following Christ and studying his word can and should impact and transform daily life. In addition to our paid youth-workers, adult volunteers with a passion for youth attend the Den; forming and growing relationships with teens.

We also believe in fun and hanging out. In addition to the recreational activities taking place at the Den each Wednesday, we run a large social event about once a month. These vary and include everything from whitewater rafting to paintball to campouts to a teen rally with over 500 other teens. Since each event is different, they vary in purpose as well. Some are purely for entertainment and recreation, some are aimed more at spiritual growth, and some are opportunities to serve our community or other organizations. All have the goal of being fun and promoting solid healthy relationships.

On Sundays, guys and girls meet separately during the Sunday School hour. This time is focused more on teaching. Teachers are in place who have a real passion and love for teens. Topics are varied. Since the classes are smaller than the major Wednesday night meeting a real goal of this time is for the teacher to be able to have a mentor style relationship with the teens who attend.
